Ltd ed. London: Alecto Historical Editions in association with the British Museum (Natural History), 1987. Four sheets of letterpress. 23 engravings, each in a window mount. In Solander case. The copperplates are virtually uniform in size, approximately 457 x 305mm. The paper used throughout is Somerset mould-made 300gsm, acid-free, produced in a special making by the Inveresk Paper Co, 724 x 556mm. The engravings were printed in colour 'a la poupee', up to 17 colours being worked directly into a single plate before each print was pulled, with additional water-colour touches in special cases. The botanical information, including all the historical and other related details, was compiled with the co-operation of the British Museum (Natural History). Each mount includes the following information: name of artist(s), date of the original water-colour drawing(s), plate number, engraver's name, modern name, manuscript name, place and date of discovery of the actual specimen illustrated. The Master Printer was Edward Egerton-Williams. The typography was designed by Ian Mortimer, and set and printed on the hand presses at I M Imprimit. The Solander case was made by G Ryder and Co. Set number 92/100 of Part XXVI/XXXIV. Families represented include Lauraceae (one plate), Proteaceae (one), Thymelaeaceae (four), Orchidaceae (five), Iridaceae (one), Podocarpaceae (one). NF.
