Patu Paraoa - Whalebone Master Carver's Mallet

Extremely fine and rare master carvers mallet made of whale jawbone. Beautifully balanced with concave strike surface. Soft shoulder lines narrow and terminate into masterfully carved and finely detailed manaia head. Highly resolved. Rich patina from age and use. Provenance: Jukes Barrett Collection.19th century.
