Included in the Asian Applied Arts section of the September catalogue are three extraordinary, life-time collections: The Peter Downey Collection of Japanese Arts; the James Barnes Collection of Carved Ivory; and the Braemar Anderson Collection of Oriental Ceramics.
The collections celebrate centuries of Chinese and Japanese applied arts which emphasise both the visual and sensuous impact of the object. Included in the collection is an extensive collection of superior antique, Japanese Netsuke, exquisite examples of mid-Edo period Tsuba, delicate glass and lacquer snuff bottles, fine Satsuma pottery and 17th to 19th century porcelain, Chinese carved ivory figures, as well as and a selection of fine cloisonné pieces.

he stands on guard on top of a rocky outcrop holding a yari while his companion looks out below. Both figures and all the details are very well rendered particularly the armour.
