An Interesting Early New Zealand Masonic Lodge Jewel.
Oval outline in 18ct yellow gold with vine and grape motif surmount above a textured frame enclosing a turquoise blue glass panel with applied Masonic symbols. Verso a domed back with a presentation inscription dated 1881. The recipient was Arthur Wright for services as Worshipful Master of Waitemata Lodge 689 (the oldest in the district). Arthur Wright arrived in Auckland in 1859, founding a business that was to become a leading tailoring establishment. He served as a member of the Parnell Borough Council, lived in St Stephens Avenue, and from 1868 was closely associated with mining interests being actively engaged with some 60/70 companies. Gemologist's report and valuation available on request and background information available.
