Of special note is a collection of The Antipodean in both 750ml and magnum bottles. A vineyard planted in the 1970s at Matakana, north of Auckland, and first released in 1987, The Antipodean has been hailed by connoisseurs as New Zealand’s Charles Lafite and New Zealand’s first ‘real’ red wine. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and malbec; the wine delivers harmony, fragrance, length and seamless integration of character. The Antipodean brings the originality and diversity of ‘New World’ wine production to ‘Old World’ grape varieties and winemaking techniques. 750mls are available in 1987, 1992, 1993 and 1994 vintages and these carry estimates of $100 - $120 per bottle. Magnums are available in the 1990, 1992 and 1993 vintages and carry estimates of $200 - $220 per bottle.
