The first A2 Art sale of 2009 on Tuesday 24th February was very well attended across the two sessions. Strong results for contemporary and modern prints proved that collectors are looking to purchase in this area of the market.
Highlights included a phone bidding frenzy for JH Carse, Australian Harbour Scene (Lot 34) which eventually sold back to an Australian buyer for $6,500 against a presale estimate of $1,000 - $1,500, $3,200 for Dick Frizzell's Velcome to Escape from Salvation (Lot 199) and $2,400 Pretty 3, an etching by Bill Hammond (Lot 211). Other good results saw the sale exceed initial expectations and proved that the market continues to be robust for original works valued up to $5,000.
Entries are currently invited for the May A2 Art sale, which will be held alongside a Contemporary Art/Design sale.
