Auckland Botanical Gardens Charity Auction

On Saturday 13th February Webb’s Auctioneer Jonathan Organ sold the original concept sketches from participants in The Sculpture in the Gardens 2009 – 2010 exhibition at The Auckland Botanic Gardens. The room was alive with competitive bidding, with the auction raising close to $10,000 towards the next Sculpture in the Garden in 2011.

The exclusive fundraising dinner event was held at The Auckland Botanic Gardens Huakaiwaka Visitor Centre. The venue was transformed into a special black tie venue with arrangements of New Zealand native flora and fauna. The complete three course meal was accompanied by selected Stoneleigh wines with an enlightening commentary by Stoneleigh Winemaker, Jaime Marfell.
 
The artworks for sale included original concept sketches by artists who were selected to exhibit in the Sculpture Trail. Highlights of the evening included fine works by Jeff Thompson, Bing Dawe, Aiko Groot, Christine Hellyar and Barry Lett among other emerging and established New Zealand sculptors.
