Over the past week Webb’s in association with Auctioneer Christopher Devereaux has helped to raise over $40,000 for the Prime Minister’s Christchurch earthquake appeal fund.
The first event, a $690 a plate Gala Dinner to celebrate the mutual passion of France & New Zealand for world class wine, fine food and rugby (not necessarily in that order) supported by Chateau Margaux and Pernod Riccard (Brancott Estate); attended by the P.M. John Key, the French Ambassador Francis Etienne and the regional director of Chateau Margaux, Thibault Pontallier saw a Jeroboam (5L) of 1995 Chateau Margaux sell for $10,500.
The second event, a Rugby themed cocktail party hosted by the British High Commissioner, Vicki Treadell saw three limited edition prints of Rugby commentating icon Bill Mclaren’s “ Big Sheet” for the 1987 RWC final selling at $6500 each to three very enthusiastic bidders. The “Big Sheet” was a complex informational diagram created by Bill McLaren by hand, involving over 20 hours work, which enabled him to have vital notes on every player, referee and even groundsmen at his fingertips during a live, and therefore necessarily ad-lib, commentary during a major match.
Both events were held in the prestigious Business Lounge in the Cloud on Queen’s wharf.
