Webb’s are proud to introduce our new Head of Fine & Rare Wines.
Marcus is a highly experienced fine and rare wine specialist, buyer & educator who brings more than 20 years experience in the specialist wine trades of the UK, France, Australia & New Zealand.
Marcus has hit the ground running since joining the team and is busy consigning some exciting vintages for the upcoming Fine & Rare Wine online auction.
His Anglo-French upbringing meant that wine and great food were always an important part of family life and at just seven years of age he was said to have proudly declared to his family that his favourite wine was in fact Sancerre.
He has been sniffing and slurping ever since and now brings to Webb’s more than 20 years professional experience in the specialist wine trades of the UK, France, Australia and New Zealand.
Marcus spent eight years in retail with Oddbins, Thresher Group and Sainsburys’ fine wine departments and undertook the opportunity to further train his palate as a high-end sommelier at Le Pont de la Tour in London.
Other international appointments have included viticulture and winemaking experience during the 2000 vintage in Bordeaux and Jurançon in France.
In 2005, Marcus located to Sydney to further his endeavours with Australasia’s largest, privately-owned, direct-to-consumer wine retailer, United Cellars.
He initiated and launched their first en Primeur Bordeaux selections for the Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong markets, including the acclaimed 2009 and 2010 vintages. Six years later, he was offered the chance to cross the ditch and establish United Cellars New Zealand division, as Director and Country Manager.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the Webb’s team, heading the Rare and Fine Wines department. I’m passionate about this industry and am looking forward to using all my resources and connections to deliver exceptional wine and exceptional service to our Webb’s customers.”
