The Fairfax Archives:
New Zealand Rugby 1920 – 1949 | 7 – 12 October
Webb’s are very pleased to present The Fairfax Archives: New Zealand Rugby 1920–1949 an exceptional online only auction that captures the development of our national game over a period of three decades.
Webb’s has secured over 200 rare photographs from the archives of Fairfax’s seven New Zealand newspapers. The collection documents the formative years of our national pastime and includes some of the most important images in rugby history. Included in the offering is a rare image of the New Zealand Rugby XV in 1945 walking through Fore Street in London, an area which shows the damage caused by Nazi airstrikes. We were delighted to meet Shane Howarth, All Black, commentator and coach, at Eden Park’s Barbarian Club to create this video sharing his expertise on this outstanding collection of images that capture such an important part of the fabric of New Zealand.
The auction will run until Monday 12 October. Lots will close in groups of 10 every two minutes from 8pm. For more information on any photographs featured in this sale please contact our specialist team who will be delighted to assist.
