The catalogue for Zoomorphic Lounge, a Private Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art, is now available to view online and open for early bidding ahead of the live auction which takes place on Tuesday 28 July from 6.30pm.
At its centre is Bill Hammond's extraordinary Zoomorphic Lounge III (1999). The painting holds Hammond's bird-people in suspended animation: neither fully avian nor human, shifting between roles as guardians, mourners, and witnesses. Their taxidermic stillness hints at both the artist's 1989 encounter with the Auckland Islands and a quiet awareness of environmental loss in Aotearoa.
This exemplary artwork is joined in the catalogue by significant works by Shane Cotton, Jacqueline Fraser, Max Gimblett, Liz Maw, and Peter Robinson, among others.
Formed over several decades, the catalogue reflects a sustained and discerning way of collecting, one shaped by close attention to place, memory, and the enduring concerns of Aotearoa's leading artists.
Highlights from the catalogue are touring across Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland ahead of the live auction. RSVP to join us at these events and viewings. We look forward to hosting you.
