Upcoming | Flow Marian Fountain & Kate van der Drift

18.08.26—12.09.26

FLOW  brings together the practices of Marian Fountain and Kate van der Drift in a shared meditation on continuity, transformation, and care. Across sculpture and photography, the exhibition traces life as an interconnected process, shaped by movement, intervention, and the enduring vitality of the natural world.

Fountain’s sculptures begin from the premise that life is ongoing, with birth and death marking brief thresholds within a continuous state of being. Working with elemental, recognisable forms, she evokes a sense of sentience and motion embedded within all things. Though cast in bronze, her works carry a lightness and quiet energy, suggesting an animist presence and a deep interdependence between human and non-human life. Her practice reflects on both the fragility and resilience of existence, speaking to the urgent conditions of climate change and the value of life on earth.

Van der Drift’s camera-less photographs emerge through alchemical processes of light, plant matter, and chemistry, shaped by her residency at Waitawa Regional Park. Engaging with the entangled histories of colonisation, industry, and ecological restoration, her works examine introduced plant species and the marks of human intervention on land and waterscapes. The images map transformation in progress, holding tension between disruption and repair, while offering gestures of resilience and hope.
